News and Events

2019-2020 Season

The Cougs took on UW November 9th and came out with a 85-5 victory in Seattle. November 16th they took on UO for the first home game of the season, but unfortunately lost in a hard fought battle 22-32. Another tough loss at home against WWU on November 23rd 3-48. OSU came into town Jan 25th and came out on top 55-19, but a rematch is scheduled for February 1st in Corvallis!

Club History Highlights

2018-2019 Season

The WSU Women's Rugby team ended the regular season undefeated in the PMRC North division. During their spring break, after months of planning, fundraising, and training they were able to travel abroad again! This time they made their way up to Dublin, Ireland. Here they played in a 10's tournament put on by Railway Union RFC, played a 15's tournament put on by Trinity College, attended a practice session with Old Belvedere Rugby Club and watched the Ireland vs France Six Nations game. They also visited the many sights all of Ireland had to offer!

 

2017-2018 Season

The WSU Women's Rugby team ended the regular season undefeated in the PMRC North division. They made it to 1st and 2nd round playoffs, but unfortuantely could not travel to Utah to particiapte in the 2nd round. They were invited to the OSU seven's tournament in April and with only a 2-week preperation period came out as undefeated champs after a stunning sudden death try against Stanford in the champoinship game.


2016-2017 Season

The WSU Women's Rugby team ended the regular season undefeated in the PMRC North division. They made it to 1st and 2nd round playoffs, but unfortunately lost to Chico State in the 2nd round. During their spring break, after months of planning, fundraising, and training, the team became the first WSU sport club in over 30 years to compete internationally. They travelled to London, England and immersed in the rugby culture there. They played against Blackheath (loss) and Middlesex University (win), watched the England vs Scotland Six Nations game, and saw the many sights London has to offer.


2012-2013 Season


The WSU Women's Rugby Team ended the regular season undefeated in the DII league. They traveled down to Palo Alto, CA for the semi-finals round (Sweet 16's) and continued their winning streak. Two weeks later they traveled to Palo Alto, CA again for the final round (Final Four's). They played two games, ending the season defeating Winona State 60-5 and still undefeated. The ruggers claimed their second national title! The hard work and dedication by every member of the team, coaches, and of course our loyal supporters made this national title possible. After this win the Cougars will be moving up to the DI league this upcoming year.


2011-2012 Season


The WSU Women's Rugby team finished the 2011 Fall Semester undefeated (8-0, 3-0 league) and was named "Team of the Tournament" at the Oregon Sports Union (ORSU) Rugby Club Tournament. At the tournament the WSU DII Ladies defeated the DI Oregon State Beavers, DI University of Oregon Ducks, and the Portland Pigs women's club. One of the semester's biggest accomplishments was defeating Western Washington 17-12 in an evenly matched game early in the season.


2009-2010 Season


The WSU Women's Rugby team finished out the regular season with an undefeated record (7-0, 6-0 league) as the Pacific Northwest Rugby Football Union Champions (www.pnrfu.com ). The Cougars entered the national playoffs with the #3 seed after winning both games at regional playoffs and claiming the Pacific Coast Rugby Football Union title (www.pacificcoastrugby.com ), and remaining undefeated (9-0, 8-0 league). At the national semi-finals in Sanford, Florida, the Cougs defeated Stonehill College and Winona State University to advance to the finals. In Palo Alto, CA the Cougars defeated Norwich University to earn a spot in the National Championship game where they faced Temple University. With a sound win the WSU Women's Rugby Team took home the first National title in Club history to cap off their undefeated season.
